Somehow, I’ve got two offers on the table. One’s a safe, standard controller role with good comp, known playbook, lots of structure. The other’s a hybrid ops/finance role at a startup where the job description is basically “fix stuff.” Lower base, but more visibility and chaos and better benefits. Comp is about the same all things considered. I’m torn between stability and stretch. Which one actually sets you up better long-term... tight scope and title, or messy impact and range?

You have to think about what environment suits you better personally. Are you ok with a job that might be more intense?

I will take whatever offer you reject.

I can send my CV.

As for the choice itself. Really, this isn't something that anyone can know but you. What are your goals currently?

Are you in a place where you want to see what you are capable of? Is this something that you want to do while you have the freedom to do so (like no other obligations such as gf/wife/kids/etc...)

Are you in a place where you just want to grow into a role that can be transitioned from easily? My impression is that a controller can easily go to another controller position.

Anyways, this is all you.

But seriously, I can send my CV. I got my CPA, 6+ years in audit, 7+ years in accounting. I am currently working on a 3 month contract that pays 20 k less than previous role...

Love this energy! Only if it works like that….

I’ve doing this for a good number of years. I think I depleted almost completely my interest in this business. When I’m out of the office or during the weekends I get into a “leave me alone state” and don’t want to know anything about the office. I actually just want to get in the agency, do the best I can within the time I have available, and get out. In a business where “the most committed wins” this is not an ideal mindset, but I’m done. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work? Or just chill out? I just feel very confused. Are a lot of full time jobs like this?
