At each of the big 4 firms, can someone tell me what the policy is in the audit practice when it comes to placing reliance on automation used in the performance of specific control attributes? Does it matter if the control is preparation vs. review? Does it matter if it’s SOX vs. not?
I’m trying to understand the implications of having AI perform a control instead of a person, and I’m trying to understand if the firms have a shared or opposing views. Thx!

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

Just over 6 years in B4 financial services tax in PNW area. Mostly doing compliance work pumping out K1s and returns. Just got an industry offer at 155k 15% bonus and 100k equity (4year vesting). Estimated tax payment question:
I converted $30k of rollover 401k into a Roth IRA and have $26k of realized ST Capital Gains this year (Roth conversion in end of Q1 and most capital gains in Q2).
