Book recommendations for new executives?
I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

So you will treat someone else with venom because of the behavior of one person?
You sound like a great leader!
These are the people that all those stupid "millennial" articles are talking about. You got a 3 month hiatus to travel the world, and you got a decent bonus, that's more than you should hope for, but still it's not enough. Pretty disgusting, I can empathize OP
Well to be fair I don't know anybody in their late 30s early 40s taking off 3 months to travel...though if they did I'm sure they'd have more reasonable expectations for a bonus
For fun .. they wanted to travel
Lol EY, don't you have some rows to distribute or something?
I'm actually the only one who would approve the leave to begin with... but how I see it is someone else ruined it for all the others
@OP - sounds like a bad breakup.
Did you laugh in their face?
Good points OP. Still disagree with not giving other an opprutunity because of one bad apple.
What was the leave for?
No need to laugh they were quite irate, I actually had to tell them to calm down. But basically I stuck my neck out for someone and it came back to haunt me.
I guess it wasn't hard to guess they were a Millennial was it D1
Agreed... so glad I grew up when I did.
You probably aren't M or above either
EY if I would not have given them the leave they would have been a top performer. They chose to ask for it which made them contribute less than others. I was told not to let them take it but I did. So I was the nice guy... and I got yelled at for being a nice guy. Why should I bend over backwards and stick up for you if you're going to take a gift and hit me with it. The other people were right ... it wouldn't have been a problem if I would have said no like everyone else.
Did you make it clear to the top-performer it would likely hurt metrics to take such a long leave? If so, then sorry about millenials being entitled.
Otherwise, I could sympathize with how a kid might think that since you approved such an outrageous request, then s/he was in the clear as a super-high performer or else you would have explained the trade-off earlier.
The leave doesn't technically hurt you meaning your numbers are frozen so your utilization number doesn't count the time off. But you are not in the market so you are not selling or generating revenue and you are ranked against your peers. They were aware that they are ranked against their peers and that sales is a metric.
