Slalom is a wonderful place to work if it meets your needs. The problem is every market is very different. Just because you loved working in New York doesn’t mean you will be happy in Houston or San Diego. Also you can’t compare Slalom to big 4. Big 4 bring a whole suite of accelerators and talents that even the largest Slalom market can’t dream of bringing even with their delivery centers. Slalom targets with its local talent that Big 4 sometimes tries but can’t always do.
My sincere advice is to find happiness at every place you work. We all have a place at the table.
True story P1, particularly the bit about diff offices having diff cultures. Currently I hear Boson’s good and Hartford has a great culture because the GM there is such a good one.
Calm down. You’ve been there a week. Everyone has this perspective during the honeymoon phase. And not saying Slalom isn’t truly like the reviews have been (I’m sure it is)...but it’s your first week. Give it time before you say no to B4 ever again.

That’s what I thought at the start too. But then you realize you have half the salary of industry and they are selling culture to avoid paying you a decent salary
@M3 right? I hate this victim mentality that some folks have. I understand that I may have been an underpaid outlier, but a year prior to joining slalom I made one industry jump for 42%. And then the jump up to slalom for an additional 35% effectively doubling my salary over the span of 2 years. YMMV. At the end of the day you need skills that are in demand and the willingness to stomach some uncertainty by walking away.
OP - could you provide a more detailed contrast so we know what's much better. Granted it's just the first week, but what was so shockingly amazing?
Also is the salary lower than the big 4, given some of the comments here

Why are consulting firm reviews even valid? They’re almost always project or unit-based, which includes geography. Job sites need to step it up and get more granular for these.
Update: I received an offer. It was competitive against my current comp. 22% increase overall, 17% base.
@MC1 I did but tangible pay is by far the biggest priority. PTO will go down 5 days but I’ve never taken the full 25 days I have. Insurance is a non-issue since I don’t get it through my employer. The wellness benefit is not a 50% match.
Can we talk? I hate ERP implementations and that’s all I’ve done but have core skills!

People, culture and wlb are not firm dependent. They are dependent on you and your team. I have had projects where I wanted to kill myself everyday and projects that actually makes me happy to work on.

Is Slalom hiring in Charlotte?
I hear the growth path is very unclear and it’s hard to be promoted. Can anyone speak to this? Looking at slalom.
I think you can quickly advance at Slalom if you advocate for yourself and can get leadership backing. Bringing the *right* previous consulting experience goes a long way and gives you credibility. Not to say Slalom doesn’t have great consultants- they do- it’s just if you can lead and show up differently where you’re leading better outcomes at clients, you’re better off than your peers because Slalom doesn’t really teach you how to consult. They expect you to bring that with you. That being said, I’m going up for Principal this year (prior big4), it’s really based on need and once you fill out and socialize your RTP, the expectations are crystal clear.
Typically is there opportunity to travel or do you only work in the local market you are in? Is there mileage given and such?
