Internal team to lean on* since this is basically like starting a new job
My first project I'm on right now doesn't have a team per se, it's mostly just myself and my manager. it's tough sometimes and it does help that I'm on a local project. be prepared to not necessarily have someone to talk to about work, but working out and other hobbies like a golf range help me during afternoons when nobody is around and I'm off work. avoid going work-hotel-work if you can otherwise you'll get a cycle of stress
Our firm does similar work. More staff aug/contract work than true consulting. I’m in the same position (senior analyst). Been on client 6 months. Usual advice from joining any team applies plus some additional tips:
First few weeks/months:
Be a sponge
Admit you don’t have all the answers to their issues right away
Once you start to learn the lay of the land:
Ask why they do the things they do. Be curious not critical. Then help to improve the current process.
Ask for access to systems/trainings that will benefit you and the client.
Always:
Ask questions when analysis requires tribal knowledge that you don’t have
Admit you know little about the content (but use it to your advantage - fresh perspective)
Client team will treat you well if you don’t put yourself on a pedestal
Not having a consulting team sucks. But it is possible to learn a lot from the experience if you drive your own growth. Not ideal though imo
Government client I’m assuming? Doesn’t sound like anything we’d do in commercial. Sorry you’re stuck on staff aug. That’s depressing work.
