Stay in current position with 135k salary+bonus (150k TC) billing 1500hrs a years. Boutique firm where I could I make significantly more if I had my own originations.

Switch for double salary (don't know TC number yet) but 1700hrs/yr? Amlaw200 firm no need for BD.

T&E practice.

Also worried about moving in current market if it doesn't work out. They like me at my current firm and my only complaint is the only way to jump salary is to start bringing in my own clients.

1700 hours is barely 40 hours a week if you're relatively efficient. Definitely take it, and refer me while you're at it if they're still hiring lol.

like

Just check to make sure it’s actually 1700 hours per year. Ask other associates what they bill on average each year.

And that there is enough work to hit those billable

Definitely switch. No question.

Double salary lol is this a real question?

I struggle to believe that the second firm will require zero BD?

This is my concern as well. I know my current firm doesn't care because they can continue to underpay me but offer the carrot that if I want more I need to bring it in myself. Partnership at my current firm, not that I really want it, is strictly a mathematical equation. Bring in enough for 2 years straight and you can be partner, if you want it.

Definitely switch. That’s a no-z?4-8!34

2x? No brainer.

Seems like a very personal decision based upon what you value and if you are good at getting clients 🤷‍♂️

That’s $750 per hour for those extra 200 billables. One way to think about it.

Which AMLaw 200 firm has a 1,700/yr requirement?

You will be lucky if you can bill 1600 since some (if not a lot) of the T&E work is not billable/flat fee. Especially when you come from a small firm, you will start from drafting ep documents. If you have a tax llm and your firm is one of the very few firms that focus on tax planning and administration, it will be different.
