Strategy folks - how do you get good at … strategy? Recently started at a startup in a role where I’m the only person under the head of our product team who handles the strategy-focus of the company. Step 1: Be really confident in what you say Step 2: Find out what your leadership team believes to be true Step 3: Define the strategy based on what they want, with graphs or charts that are interesting, on PowerPoints that are well formatted

Read up on structured thinking, no particular book, just the general concepts and many different ways to do it. This'll help you define structures from which you build your own concepts and approaches to problems. The structure, once familiarized with your stakeholders, will also serve as the basis of understanding for all of your ideas for your audience; this keeps you rooted in something and not coming up with seemingly random ideas. Once you have the buy-in and have clearly defined overall strategy, momentum will roll.

My biggest strong suit is my seamless ability to connect bigger picture themes. It’s why I wanted to embark on this path. However, what I need to hone in on is my ability to confidently communicate the thoughts in my head. Articulating my thoughts/ideas effectively is what I’m working on - both verbally and in the work I put out - and I think that developing my structured thinking would greatly benefit in that regard. This was great. Very helpful insight, thank you.

Clay Christensen had some really good books on strategy, I took his class a few years ago and it was fantastic. Highly recommend his stuff

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!

Hi fellow fishes, I've been offered a Tech strategy role at PWC SDC, Bangalore. My total experience is of 6 years (2.5 pre-MBA and 3.5 post-MBA). The offered role is of the same domain in which I've been working for the last 3.5 years @ACN. PWC are offering me a Senior Associate position. My question is - should I or can I negotiate with the HR to give me a better position (e.g. Manager) than the Senior Associate? Thanks in advance!

Random Question - I live with a roommate for the last 2 years now. We have become really good friends and she is like a sister to me. We used to hangout and do a lot of fun stuff before COVID. When I make a plan to do something during COVID, I always include her to do or go somewhere. Of late, when she makes plans, she goes on her own or if she goes with her friends (whom I know), she would not invite me. I feel left out and sad because of it. I think I should not feel that way as she can

Had an interview scheduled with hiring manager at Apple. Recruiter has been so hard to get hold of and never gave me any video conference details so I assumed this was a phone call which I’ve had with other Apple interviews at hiring manager screening round. Wasted first 10 mins going back and forth on this. I wasn’t ready for video interview too. Worst interview experience!! Bombed my interview so hard 😭😭😭😭
