Disagree often with another employee. We sat down today to hash everything out. Was this the right thing to do? What if they recorded the convo?

Did you say something that could make you look bad?

like

No but other employee said some things that weren’t true. But I didn’t admit to anything and said those things were untrue.

Casually mention that you were listening back to your recording of the conversation and you think it went great and are very happy you talked things through

likefunny

If you got to an understanding in the end, I wouldn’t worry. Also, in some states, it’s illegal to record a private conversation without consent. I highly doubt most people would record a convo though

like

What if they did?

like

A recorded convo would prevent them from twisting it? No?

Just deal with it in the fight club like everyone else sheesh

like

They are not allowed to record unless you agree. Why would you agree?

That depends on the state.

like

Always better to try and talk it out, imo. Well, usually. Better to do so if you think there’s progress to be made and it’s worth the investment. Definitely have been in situations where I just needed to hold on until the end of the engagement and wish them well while asking to never be staffed with them again, but also they were a recognized systemic problem, not a personal one.

Fisticuffs would have probably been more appropriate. Then you would have known the real winner.

Do you work at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave by any chance?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

How do you deal with a manager who expects 3 months of work overnight? I have tried structuring , creating a plan to show him how the activities are being executed. However, he seems to be someone who turns around every other hour to ask ‘Is it done’? I am usually pretty good at managing expectations but having a hard time conveying how unreasonable he is being. Despite being organized, I am coming across as scattered and jumbled since I have been working 15+ hours with no food and break daily

I recently took a job with a top tier investment manager, which is a step up in title and responsibilities. I went through the typical “notice” conversations with my current employer. My boss, who was a significant supporter and mentor of me during my time at my current firm, told me that he doesn’t think my new firm is “long term” for me. Anyone ever get something like this before? It threw me off because I was hoping for his support, understanding that it’s tough for him temporarily

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

How far in advance do you advise your assistant that you will need them to efile something? I get pushback from my assistant about not giving adequate notice when I tell her in the AM that I will need her to file something in the PM. For context, this is just a regular motion (not for SJ or anything complicated). Also, I always prepare my own exhibits and supporting documents, so I just need her to file the final PDFs. Does anyone else experience this? Are my expectations unreasonable?

The hostility on my team is rough. We have a yeller. I walked by her room the other day. She was screaming across the room at a student, "you have to be kind to get kindness." Seriously, those were her words in a loud, berating, angry tone. Our admin has asked that we not report these. We are to talk to the teacher. She has yelled at me and other adults. Admin has to know she treats the kids this way too. One teacher has to work with her door closed to not hear the yelling all day.
