Struggling in being assertive at work for a while, trying to go for promotion and although they give random feedbacks like visibility, changed to something else next 1:1 and so on, I have realised it is my confidence that mainly is lackin. I don’t know how long or why, but how do you practice being confident assertive self at work both for downward and upward mgmt? I already suffer from imposter syndrome so that’s there.

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full. Is it wrong for me to expect either a promotion or to be paid to train this person?

I'm not in sales per se but I manage my company's largest wholesale account ($150 million per/yr account). It's a great company, awesome culture, good benefits, flexibility, but the pay is not great ($60K/yr). All the pros outweighed the mediocre pay, but now with inflation rising, my paycheck isn't going as far and I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out if I should start looking elsewhere or if I should ask my boss for a raise.

Asking for a friend. Is a 10k raise (75k ->85k) for a promotion to a midlevel creative position in NYC low or typical??? I feel like the raise itself which is only 13% (and inflation eats 5-8% of that) seems low and I want to encourage them to ask for more.

Do I go for a promotion even though I’m being told it isn’t a home run? Is there a backlash/ detriment to declaring for one and not receiving? Would I be wasting folk’s time? This is my first run at a promotion outside the Army.

We had a Sr. Manager depart from the team and I, among my other teammates, have been working to cover the void. I applied to the Sr. position but was told it would be another year before a promotion could be offered. Considering current responsibilities, work performance, and personal ambition, I feel comfortable in believing that I should have been considered. I have turned down a Sr. position at a direct competitor to stay. How can I bring this subject back up to my supervisor?

One of my top talents just put in his two weeks notice and I had nothing to offer him to stay. I told upper management this was going to happen! I’ve spent months asking for a promotion for him, trying to push his career forward and got no traction. I know i did my best. He knows i tried. I was offered additional compensation paid out over first year but concerned the annual increase will be less than the first year additional pay.
