Tech vs CPG Strategy Consulting:

I have two strategy consulting offers; one is from a boutique, TMT consulting firm, and the other from a large CPG company. The work, pay, and projects between the two are equally appealing. So this comes down to really choosing between industries.

I've worked in finance for most of my career and don't know too much about either. For those of you who have worked in both industries, do you have any insights into the pros/cons of each?

Has anyone received equity as contingency comp? I have a potential client with a founders dispute. He doesn’t have cash, and the other founder ripped him off and is now running the company. He wants to sue for equity and wants to pay me with whatever equity he wins. I’ve never done a deal like that. Is that even enforceable? CA law. The startup is actually quite promising.

Is our industry as competitive as some say? I see a lot of people saying this and I work with a bunch of hacks (myself included). It felt like a little while ago agencies were begging to hire new talent, and most couldn’t find new people. Is it really that hard to get a job at an agency?
