The company I work for (SaaS) has little to no inbound leads coming in. We mostly do outbound work. At the top of your head, what do you think could be the main reasons for this?

This is the case at most of the companies I’ve worked for. Inbound leads usually come from marketing efforts—whether it’s SDRs/MDRs, webinars, online content, lack of referral or marketplace partners. It is a lot of work to survive on total outbound. But it’s a powerful skill!

Used to sell marketing tech-so the problem could also have to deal with a huge gap in written content on your website. The Google algorithm is very picky/sensitive when it comes to recognizing and ranking content.

Basically, the algorithm looks at the web of searches in the industry and knows what’s being searched more than other topics. So whoever is writing the best content (that also has mini content pieces that are linked to that main content piece and support that idea) is whoever is going to rank higher

I’ve literally seen small 50 companies with one writer outrank billion dollar companies like Salesforce…at their own bread and butter.

Product could be amazing or average even but if you don’t have the content to get eyes on it-you’re as good as dead!

Your company might be good at sales but sucks at marketing. You need both to do well.

Or it’s just starting out - that’s the case early on at most places

Sounds like marketing needs more budget or has the wrong strategy.

No one knows your company. No one knows the solution provided. Rather than marketing towards your clientele and having them seek you out (costing $$$,$$$.$$) it is less expensive to have sales professionals target the clientele and pitch for business.

Nobody knows about the product lol

Nobody knows about the product? Or also nobody even realizes there is a problem. Are you solving a real problem? Does your product create value?

Sometimes running ads is not the best way to reach your target market. The ad can be good but the channel is wrong. How do your competitors advertise?

I work at a SaaS that publishes research and we get retweeted / shared and people even message us. Is your research good?

Hard to make a case for anyone other than marketing. The software would have to have absolutely zero use because even if the software wasn’t great, potential buyers/users wouldn’t know that, so they should still be able to generate inbound leads.

True. What surprises me is that the software actually has big use.

Who on your Advisory Board or your Board of Directors can open doors for you?

Been noticing this as well for the past couple of months and a lot of leads we have are generated by outbound even though it may come in as a tier 1/tier 2 lead. There maybe a disconnect between marketing and the sales team which could further impact the quality of leads you see or lack thereof.

As an SDR, how can you obtain the skills required to be an AE if the current AEs at your company are doing poorly?

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?

Seeking advice: I am a young sales consultant and sales engineer working for a tech startup company. I have 6 years of sales experience. And I have been helping run my family business for the past 10 years. I was intially interviewed for a senior account executive position at a $70k offer. Instead they told me I needed more training and hired me as a Junior account executive at a $50k salary + commission. Today is my 6th month mark and I have done very well. And no talks of a promotion / raise..

Hey everyone,

I work as a Solution Specialist (sales rep) at an Authorizer Verizon retailer. Phone/wireless sales is not something I want to do forever. I have 4 years mobile sales experience and 3 additional years of niche sales/ customer service experience. I’m feeling stuck and every career/job move fells it is a step backwards. Does anybody have any advice on how to power through this or what other routs I could go?

I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

like

I am considering an offer for an AE role (UK-LDN) where the base is £42k & OTE is £70k. The Regional GM has verbally promised to move it up to £50k base if I perform well during the probationary period, but I can’t have it in writing on the contract. I’ve tried to counter offer but they said I’m currently maxing the salary band (L4). This role is exciting as I’d be the first UK employee, doing the full sales cycle & more but I had the same base and ote as an SDR. Is it too low? Do I take it?

Asking for a friend:
My friend received two job offers for Account Executive roles: a Mid-Market role with Confluent and an Enterprise role with ThoughtSpot. He’s conflicted because Confluent is a more established company, ThoughtSpot is Pre-IPO. Confluent is a lucrative product to sell and has established SDR reps so there’s a good blend of inbound and outbound sales. Thoughtspot is more of a startup culture where most of the sales comes from outbound and it’s a tougher sell.
