There is so much misinformation regarding H1B. By no means these are low wages or cheap labor.
Yes some companies abuse it, then fix the process around it and invest more in American education vs arbitrary $100k fees.
Detailed breakdown of H1B salaries here: https://h1bgrader.com/h1b-sponsors/visa-usa-inc-op0lw9gmkl/salaries/2025

the fee is a great step for america
The program needs major reforms and considering how inefficient congress has been these last few years, the fee maybe one of the bandages that can be applied in the near term. The displacement concerns for American workers are real - even for US citizens who were once on H1b.
I’m not a huge fan of some of the things the administration has done, but this excellent. Very happy and hopefully will stem the abuse of the program that is rampant.
It’s a broken system and needs reform.
For the visa holders it’s essentially (well paid) indentured servitude to their employer.
And it absolutely costs Americans jobs and depresses wages. For the vast majority of these jobs - especially the entry and mid-level ones we could find American talent. We just might need to look a little harder or pay a little more.
It might cost some American jobs being given to Visa holders but you need to account for the # jobs created by companies choosing to HQ in the US knowing they can tap into both US talent and top talent from abroad.
There’s also some misconception around the ease of obtaining an H1B, it is in no means a straightforward thing, and many companies prefer not to have to deal with visa procedures.
Here is another chart for OP that someone else posted on Fishbowl. Data is data.
So no real sources backing it up. Got it
This will be net negative for America. Companies, in part, choose locations based on the ability to attract top talent. This will cause talent to flow to other geographies. The same happened to London post-brexit. An outflow of talent and companies to mainland Europe.
This will not be a step-change but will happen gradually over time.

VP1, if Indians in general are all of those things then why are they fleeing India? Wouldnt a country full of smarter and more ambitious people be more successful than a country full of a bunch of lazy americans?
Found the body shop consulting WITCH partner! Sorry pal your racket is up
Ok well played I laughed out loud

The argument is that H1B *suppresses* wages for everyone in fields like tech, not that H1Bs are just low wage. It would indeed be better to fix the process, but this admin doesn’t like to take time to do things in the best way.
Partner OP, there is now more supply than demand.
Let's be honest, we just like the H-1Bs because they are hungrier and captive.
This is how it works

I'm sure there are better solutions than a flat $100k surcharge, but bottom line, if a "highly skilled" job can only survive with a meager $1,000 fee, it is not, in fact, highly skilled. No surprise then that H-1B was most popular among the WITCH doctors.
Apparently there is a clause where Trump admin can waive the fee on a case by case basis
So basically get bribed with something
