How to handle a toxic work environment? My team hired a new guy who has 0 experience and is younger than me, yet he was hired with a higher job title than me. I am fully licensed with my SIE/Series7/63/CFP (he has none of these). The firm makes these decisions but I am dumbfounded. I’m told if I want a higher job title I have to forgo overtime eligibility. Seems like a cop out answer.

Considering becoming a CFP and CFA but I’d like to know what the job market looks like. For those of you who are practicing, how long were you searching for a job and are you satisfied with your experience thus far?

Underpaid? 5 years managing 250+ households, working toward my CFP (advisor’s request), conduct meetings in FAs absence, travel to meet clients out of state, cultivated many relationships on my own, work with wholesalers to customize structured notes and trade them biweekly (tedious with the volume we do), manage 40+ SBLOCs (fun when volatile), provide all financial planning services to clients, office management, marketing, did I mention I’m his only staff member? $1M producer - me $65k/year

1)Mid 30s, Michigan, CFP. Conducting due diligence to go RIA (IAR & RR regs currently at protocol member firm). Suggestions? Do/Don't? Contacts? Expense templates? Avoid ___?Expectations for yr1/yr2?

So I am a W-2 salaried CFP at a small IRA and I have a neighbor who runs his own practice and asked if I knew anyone who would be looking for part time paraplanning work. After thinking about it I got to wondering if its compliant and okay for an advisor to do something like that on the side for extra income or would that be considered a conflict on interest as an OBA?

I have the formula down: Short sentence about my emotional state. Followed by a sentence about how I never share something like this but today I am compelled. Followed by a series of one or two sentence paragraphs telling a story. Maybe the story is about a time I overcame an obstacle. Or maybe the story is about a time when I defiantly did nothing because “boundaries.” Or maybe I share a story that’s not mine to share. Shallow conclusion followed by asking followers “do you agree?”

People are not willing to settle for jobs that don’t pay. If we can find a better opportunity elsewhere, then we take it. The only way to fix the retention problem is for PA firms to make massive pay increases, which will allow for more applicants and more hires, which will reduce the average workload per person. It’s an obvious fix, leadership just needs to not be stingy.

KPMG tax peeps- joining the firm and wanting to understand the phone policy for managers. $45 for line plus $20 for equipment? No KPMG negotiated carrier plans/ equipment rates- KPMG just reimburses a total of $65 max. Is this correct?
