Maybe I’m missing something but if you’re in a monogamous relationship why do you need prep? Or did the relationship recently end?
I use Mistr in TX and pay nothing with a HDHP. In fact, my deductible and out of pocket thresholds are covered with how they do the copay card billing.
Name brand Descovy
Where are you based? PrEP (and all its associated costs including copay, lab work, etc) is fully covered in most states as a preventative service. For example, in NY, you never should be paying a cent for any care related to PrEP regardless of your plan, your deductible amount, etc.
Well, if it works the same in CA as it does in NY, that’s very unfortunate for their patients. There shouldn’t be any patient cost sharing. Would recommend trying to speak with an office manager or calling additional offices. Academic centers may have better systems in place and be more aware.
Dont pay for prep. You can get it free.
Why does it cost so much for you? My doctor visits for PrEP and lab work quarterly might have had copays of up to $100 each, and the generic PrEP itself was covered fully by my insurance. I’m in New York if it matters.
Thank you!
I will do more research on the exact costs.
My question is really not whether it is $200 or $500, but to see if anyone is able to get doctors fee and lab work for free on a high deductible plan as I see online documentation that those should not be charged for prep.
I finally got hold of someone on MISTR via their online chat. Pasting my conversation in case this helps others.
I may go through this route. I just don’t understand why there is such lack of information in this area.

MISTR
MISTR: Hello. How may I help you?
Me: Hi C, I am trying to understand the cost of coverage of being on Prep. I have a high deductible plan and want to understand the cost of doctors visits and lab visits etc.
MISTR: Hi D! Testing and doctor consultation are fully covered by Mistr As for medications, they are covered by insurance. If you do not have active insurance, or your insurance only covers a part of it, our partner pharmacy will enroll you in a patient assistance program to cover the costs for you.
Me: is that the case irrespective of the income limits?
MISTR: To enroll in GILEAD, if you do not have insurance, the limit is up to 65.000 annual income
Me: I do have insurance. My income is over $65K. But I have a high deductible of $3600. I just want to make sure I don't have to pay for medication, doctors visits and lab work
MISTR: The tests and medical consultations are free, as for the cost of the medication, unfortunately I cannot provide you more information, as our pharmacy support team takes care of it, once the doctor sends the prescription to the pharmacy, but you can contact us via email at support@mistr.com
Me: How do I enroll for a medical consultation and test first?
MISTR: You can start by creating an account on mistr.com You will be able to choose between ordering a home testing kit or schedule an in person appointment Once we receive your lab results, a doctor assigned to you will review it then the prescription will be sent to our partner pharmacy and they will mail the medication to your home address
Me: Thank you! Appreciate your help
MISTR: You're welcome! 😊 Have a great day! 👋

Silly question, but is this med good for women too?
@Deloitte 1 thanks
Are you using the generic medication? That should be covered at no cost
I use MISTR and it is 100% free. The PrEP, the shipping, the testing, everything.
