I recently gave my two week notice and will be joining a good firm.
While having drinks with my colleagues today one of them says “you’re not a citizen. Stop taking American jobs.” I am an immigrant yes, but I have a graduate degree from one of the target schools and have worked my a*$ off to be where I am. I laughed it off then but now I regret letting it go that easily.

Feeling like it's only a matter of time before I have to tell the new marketing dept head that the snazzy jargon just makes him sound like a tryhard and alienates our customer base

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

Made an embarrassing mistake today and feeling terrible. What's the biggest fuck up you've seen someone make at work?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

I’m dealing with a difficult management situation and don’t know what to do, how would you report someone when nobody really cares what’s going on or is automatically going to side with the other person?

I want to find ways to build up team morale without resorting to clichés like a pizza party. What are some of your favorite ways to give back to employees?

I struggle w/ deep convos in social settings w/ partners. We have team dinners every few weeks that I go to, but find it tough to engage with them. Doing well on case, but feel it’s career limiting.

Has anyone successfully pursued a relationship with someone they met at work? An MD I am really attracted to has been chasing me, but I am nervous about what the repercussions could be if it doesn't work out. Still, it's tempting

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Reps how do you handle when a producer requests reels from you then doesn’t watch a single one and completely ghosts you after submission?

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. There is also another surgical coordinator however I have come to find from other staff that there is a long history of her running other staff away and not fully training other surgical coordinator staff properly. Got an offer at a great company. Ive done this job before but moved away from it because it burnt me out because of the people and it scarred me. I have found out i have ptsd from it and am scared to start the new one. Been working on ptsd thru therapy. I know its a great firm and a great opportunity but my ptsd is bad. Another company last wk reached out same field diff role more chill and behind the scenes and i cant help but think about the easy way out over the challenge and better future.

I just discovered that scheduling a call for 7 am the morning after a boozy team event is the best way to get easy agreement and consensus. No debating for the sake of debating when everyone is sleepy! 😂
