It’s not like most folks celebrate Memorial Day for what it is unless they have someone they know personally who served in the military and passed. They are just happy they have the day off work and BBQ.

Celebrate how you want though with or without your colleagues. I’m taking the day off because friends are coming to town and we may go to a Juneteenth festival.

Im the only Black person under my manager and on my project team and I sure did send an Out of Office calendar notification to them all “xxx OOO for Juneteenth”. I’m blackity black black and don’t forget.

You’re the only black person at a team Juneteenth HH? Personally I wouldn’t go just to see what happens if I decline. Are they still going to have the HH? On some if a tree collapse in the forest and no one here’s did it make a sound tip 😂😂

But I’m also very well established in my career so I can afford to be petty openly standing in my blackness.

Do what best works for you and where you are in your career right now but also do what’s best for YOUR SOUL. Cause when it’s time to sleep at night, you’re the one up with your thoughts not them.

If it makes you uncomfortable, tell them you can’t go because you have to go home and walk your cat. 🙃

Also Juneteenth HH is giving pandering like the “it’s the freedom for me” plates.

(But if the company also has HH for July 4th and Memorial Day, I guess you can let them rock - but if not? Girllll you have your answer)

Help- my SIL showed me two dresses she rented for my shower, and I think they are super bridal/not very appropriate to wear as a guest or bridesmaid. I have asked others and they agree. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks.
