I had interviewed for an internship position at EY for technology consultant program for summer 2022 and got a call where they extended an offer. I wanted to know if I can defer the internship offer to fall 2022 or a later start date after summer.
I apologize as I cannot reply to a comment or DM on this platform to anyone, but thanks for your answers in advance.

I think there's something to the idea that companies aren't really taking any risks with new hires. So applicants need to be avoiding drastic career changes. But I still think being closely aligned with a job listing is good enough to warrant applying. I do strongly agree with the idea in that article about people applying to way too many jobs. You'll see people say they applied to some bizarrely high number of jobs, and you have to wonder about the quality of the applications if they're spam applying like that.
It is fair enough to me that companies want somebody that can come in and start working. I do think it is a huge oversight to not give them even a little bit of time to figure out a new and different company. End of the day, work is very similar, but there is always so much else to learn.
I have what I'd consider a high amount of applications out there, but I treat it day to day as a job. I research the company before a considered application fulfilling their criteria. As a housebound, skilled professional, I have to apply to remote only roles, no matter the amount, to be in with a chance of getting my CV seen. I increasingly appear to be a ‘tick box’ and sadly sometimes individuals are forced to make many applications.
I’ve been in the same boat lately and started tweaking my resume to focus on outcomes instead of just job duties. Framing my past work in terms of impact really helped connect the dots for recruiters.
