How do I pivot from a broker to any job in tech?
Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

Start building relationships ASAP. You never know who will help you out along the way.
And not just creating them, set calendar dates to check in with key relationships once you have left a project. Over the years there will be hundreds of people you meet and you can spend a project developing these relations just to let them drift away when you move to your next project.
Communication and Relationship skills.
Build a network, work on your communication (learn how to communicate at all levels), be humble, but a assertive, learn how to set expectation, learn how to reset expectations. Do not become a pre Madonna, treat everyone as if they are just as smart or smarter than you are, always understand the reason why something is the way it is before you start to redesign it. And lastly, stay up to date on everything that affects your day to day job as well as what will affect your job tomorrow, re-invent your self.
You are correct.
Try to find a good counselor or mentor who will look out for you. At least at EY, getting good project opportunities is much more about who you know than your experience (I’ve watched people with a lot less experience get good roles on projects while very seasoned people at the same level are still on the bench). Also, learn when it is OK to ask off a project because it is the wrong role or simply not developing you. I will tell you that I made the mistake of just being a “good soldier” and going wherever the firm told me, and in the end that did me no favors.
