I am 100% remote and love it. My biggest recommendation is to separate your work space as much as possible, with a door that can close after work hours if that’s an option for you. A good home office set up helped a lot mentally, otherwise it felt like I never left work/kept working long hours because the laptop was in my living space. I used to commute 3-4 hours a day, so making sure I use that “time back” for family time or errands also helps mentally.
Thank you for the advice. Very helpful!
I first went fully remote during COVID. When I went to a new company, it was with a company that was 100% remote and based in another state. It really depends on how your company handles being remote. My company has a couple of onsite meetings each year for everyone to come together, online "game hour" every other month, and we use motivosity to encourage each other and talk about common topics (kind of like clubs). It takes some adjusting but it's not bad.
Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it!
Its interesting that some people feel isolated in working from home. I actually love working from home and not having to talk to people and deal with their drama and BS. There is no one looking over my shoulder and I do not get distracted with other people's nonsense. I never understood how people felt lonely working from home. Do you need people that much? Are you that insecure? I'm not trying to mean, I just don't get it. I also don't get people who want to work from home and think that that means you don't actually work. With my firm, we were told in advance that every key stroke is recorded and, they know when you are not actually working. I don't worry about that, though. I know I'm working so they can monitor me all they want.
I think some people are just more social than others. I like the hybrid model the best. I like to be around other people sometimes, nothing to do with being insecure. I also appreciate the days of quiet at home, but it would drive me crazy if it were full time.
Make sure that you have an office set up, like mine is in my den.
Working from the couch, living room is not a good idea .
No tv in my office. So it gives me this office vibe.
I personally love it because I can work and do whatever I need to do. Though I do travel nationally for trials, so it’s nice to socialize with people…
You can connect with people using teams (LOL)
Being fully remote allows me to work even more hours … because I’d be like byeeeeeeeee as soon as 5 pm comes..
trust me . You won’t have time to think you feel isolated and disconnected . Lmao
Thank you so much for the feedback!
I'm also 100% fully remote since 2020. I never feel isolated. I log-in and every hour I walk away from my desk even for 5 minutes (either to do some chores, let the dog out or just make appointments). But once I'm back online, I'm fully engaged. For some, it may be an adjustment at first. But without the noise and mindless chatter, I'm focused with emails and tasks at hand. Also, try to listen to music when you work so it's not as quiet. If you can, when you take lunch, walk outside and enjoy the weather. Goodluck!
Thanks I really appreciate the advice
Love being remote. I don’t feel isolated. I call or IM my coworkers sometimes to just say hey. My attorney and I have monthly video meetings just to chat. Turn your video on when you have calls. When I went into the office I never saw anyone anyways. My social interactions now are deliberate and meaningful. And then I’m getting more work done in general because everything else is so much more efficient. Just keep your work area separate from your living area. I honestly love it. I’ll never go back to an office, it’s not for me.
Thank you! Great approach. I will keep this in mind.
I would LOVE to have that opportunity!!
Honestly I think many of us would love to still be fully remote. I was fully remote during Covid and it was amazing. The biggest thing for me was having a designated work space (office) where I could quietly get work done because my husband also works from home.
