Thoughts on a Hedge Fund Accountant role after 1 year within Advisory at Analyst after school (have MSF, CPA). HF is small and the role would include finance and operations work as well.

This sounds like a great move if you’re interested in making money. Hedge funds are hard to break into and if you can get good experience at a hedge fund and move to a larger fund, you could make huge money. Bonuses can be 100 to 200% of salary at the larger funds (this comes with seniority and depends both on the fund’s performance and your performance), but it’s not uncommon for people who spend many years at hedge funds. So like a base of $200k and bonus of $400k is possible for like a controller or senior tax manager or tax director of a large hedge fund, and more than this is possible as well. I’d go for it

I say go for it
Especially if the fund you liked the people

I have a buddy an accounting manager at a private equity fund

She likes it

Don’t do it. Do the hard thing and stay in public - whether its at Deloitte or jumping to midsized. Switching will kill your momentum - I’ve seen far too many boomerangs that figured that out after the fact.

Or hey, jump ship. Life is short.
