They’ll most likely go up a little bit or stay stagnant unless unemployment goes higher. If people can afford the prices and rates go lower prices will go higher with demand.
Same, thinking of moving to Austin from Seattle and buy first home there too.But property taxes in Texas is scary. Is commuting to Austin from San Antonio a viable option?
Thank you for the warning.
I’d wait until the end of 2023 in Texas
Why? 2023 recession? Property tax bills just hit.
On a tangential note, how is Pflugerville pronounced? Based on that, that might end up being my favorite city.
Flew-ger-ville
We currently live in a high tax state( paying almost 2500/month in state tax) , we’d rather consider paying that money as property tax and extra payment for mortgage.
Why are property taxes all over the place? Like one place with 520k home will have property tax of 700$/month. Another home of 650k just in a one mile radius from the other home will have property tax of 150$/month. What’s the deal with this?!
Oh then the taxes that you're looking at may only be for the land value, not the taxes for the total property (dwelling/improvements + land).
If it's a new build, the developer or agent should be able to provide you the tax rate. I'd assume the property will be assessed at the purchase price, as it would be hard to contest the appraisal to be lower. If there are completed homes in the development from last year, you can look up their taxes to confirm the info you're given.
So if the tax rate is 2.5% on a $500k new build, your taxes would be $12,500 annually before any exemptions (homestead, over 65, disabled veteran, etc) .
