To kick it off — really annoyed. Delta is just becoming a credit card company that operates commercial aircraft
It’s nuts to me from a brand perspective that someone with an Amex Platinum who flies once a year will get lounge access whereas I, a Diamond Medallion who flew over 60 flights and spent over $25k this year with Delta won’t
I get that SkyPesos is objectively a bad rewards program and SkyTeam is a weak airline alliance, but Delta at least has good routes for me and excellent service… maybe it’s time to look into United
You don’t automatically get access to United either just because you have status. You have to a) fly business b) get their United Club card or c) purchase United Club access.
I have an AXP so no change other than a higher guest fee.
Chief
Manipulative and annoying…”we’re solving capacity issues by making sky club expensive AF!”
Yes… and the access rules which permit the most guests are tied to credit card holders from what I see
I have an individual club membership through Diamond medallion status and get zero complimentary guests unless traveling internationally. The Delta branded cardholders get two, and if I had to guess, the base of people eligible to pay for guest access is WAY larger than those with individual access through loyalty
Honestly, at the end of the day it’s just different flavors of very well-off people arguing among each other about a silly and selective “benefit,” but it does grind my gears a little
It sucks. But I’m still not going back to AA and I’m not at a United hub so I’ll stick with Delta.
For personal flights though I’m leaning towards southwest especially now that I’m not doing work travel for the foreseeable future.
Good recommendation… but I’m all consolidated in Vanguard 🥲
Honestly, I’m really not sure what the value prop of Skymiles is anymore. I’m diamond but just not sure it’s worth it. Lounge access was a major perk. What else is there? Bag fees…who cares? Upgrades? Yea that’s nice but it’s only on domestic.
I live in ATL so delta far and away has the best routes, but if I move I might just go agnostic and end up paying less.
Same. I’m Diamond and honestly upgrade (even comfort +) on flight less than 3h have like zero value for me. And now the global upgrade are only one cabin up. Seems cheap to me.
No lounge access is ridiculous. They renewed status throughout Covid which is also a reason why the clubs are overcrowded. This announcement is silly.
Agree that letting the platinum card folks in but not the Diamond medallion seems like an odd decision.
Also upset about the removal of lounge access for gold/plat on international flight. That was nice for my husband who isn’t Diamond.
I have a very hard time seeing the value prop of getting to the Diamond level. I guess the only thing that remain is the mile multiplier for free trips 🤷♀️
I’ve been diamond for a few years but honestly have stopped going to sky clubs anyway. They’re dirty, overcrowded and the food and drink is garbage. So many airports are refurbing and getting better food options I’d rather stay out of the lounge and pay for something decent. Maybe if they make them less busy and nicer they’ll become a perk again.
