Any Aon pension actuaries who could help my friend understand the hierarchy of titles? Let’s say my friend has 10 years of experience, FSA and EA credentials, was a consistently high performer over his career, what would his expected title be at Aon within the core retirement actuarial business? Thanks in advance.
Let's go 🤗

Do you think the people you work with are smart?

Can speak for capital one but not in data analytics. Hours for me are around 9-6 on a busy day and 9-4 on good days maybe earlier. Growth is definitely there, we aren’t the biggest bank and there’s plenty more to go. Salary raises arent the best from what I understand but I’m paid well enough and I’m not going insane so i’ll take it

MS offers RSUs at all levels, I believe, C1 only offers them to directors on up.
I think base goes higher at C1, but TC is likely higher in the long run at MS due to RSUs.
I don't know where data analytics at C1 falls in the pay hierarchy (SWE is paid the most, then BA and PM, then project management and back office roles), but my understanding of the salary midpoints at C1 HQ in the DC area for PM are somewhere in the ballpark of $140k for manager, $170k for senior manager, $200k for director, and $225k for senior director. NYC and SF are somewhere around 15% higher, Richmond and Dallas are somewhere around 15% lower. I've heard hours are pretty chill for most groups.
I was interviewing for a SM PM position at HQ that got put on ice due to the virus.

I think they’re both great cultures with smart people. Interesting work/use of data to drive strategy may be more dependent at Microsoft what team you’re on from what I’ve seen.
Would these roles be in the respective HQs? I think you should decide based on where you’d rather live/industry you’re in
Thanks all, definitely leaning towards C1
C1 hours are amazing considering how much you get paid. Growth potential is decent; you can probably expect to be promoted to SM within 2-3 years, then Director with 2-4 more. After that it gets harder, as with most companies

I'd probably lean toward Microsoft. They do a much wider range of things with data (and AI), so there will be more variety of opportunity. And they may have better exit opportunities because it seems easier to go from MSFT to any other firm (including FAANG) than a tier 2 bank to other firms.
Interesting thread. I’m considering an offer from C1 so that salary info is interesting.
How open are they to salary negotiation, out of curiosity?

I think it varies from business unit to business unit. One of the two affected positions was in the retail banking business unit, makes 100% sense to me that they'd be affected. The other was on an internal team and I was just told that they were "assessing operations" and all hiring in that unit was on hold.
MS compensation might be better and they usually offer stock bonus as well.
Not looking to switch now, but in a few months
