What’s worked for me is addressing the comment calmly in the moment without letting emotions take over. I usually ask clarifying questions like, “Can you explain why you think this is too complex?”
Honestly, I’ve learned not to let comments like that slide. While you want to avoid burning bridges, you also need to assert yourself.
“Thank you for your input. Can you elaborate/ provide examples of what you mean?”
They most likely wont have any and feel silly or they might come back with actual concerns which you should be ready to defend.
Getting some clarity can be a really good way to navigate those situations. One time I did that and they actually did come back with some things I hadn’t thought about when I did bring it up. Also keep in mind, it may be coming from a genuine place of concern and not just them brushing you off.
