Catch up on work. In my opinion that's taking advantage using the religion card. But he feels like he should work until 6 pm like everyone else. The religion requires approximately 3-4 hours a week from his schedule (and he takes lunch on top of that) . My argument was that he shouldn't expect to be compensated the same if he works less than others. But he stated that well his religion comes first (which is fine) , but I feel like religion may hinder promo or progression. Thoughts?
3 to 4 hours! Plus lunch? He needs to work past 6pm to at least have 8 hour workday at minimum.
Agreed!!!!
Are you working with this friend? Or their manager? It’s a very delicate conversation depending on where you are located ( people in usa are overly sensitive on a lot of matters including religion). So be careful if you decide to broach the topic
Nope. Just a friend. Outside of consulting. He is a neighborhood friend
I’m sorry, but I’m really curious - what religion requires 3-4 hours a day. Not being snarky or anything, truly curious.
3-4 hours a week
Got it - thank you.
My thoughts, people who believe in a certain way, as perhaps your friend does, regard that 3-4 hours a primary duty which needs to happen regardless of whatever is going on, work, entertainment, etc. everything takes a back seat, because, the outcomes of those 3-4 hours, for them, have greater significance than more mundane things, such as work.
Also, living in America, they have certain rights afforded to them, and, I think if they deliver what they are responsible for, then we shouldn’t criticize that.
I knew someone like that - and they were ok to lose their job, but wouldn’t give up their prayers or other religious obligations. Very frustrating when you don’t think that way - but, for them, that is their life.
