At this level I think you’re looking for just strategy consultants or people who can help you understand the landscape of your business. It’s more market research, analysis and putting it together in a thoughtful way with someone who help you think through investment hypothesis and do some modelling. Definitely no need to go full in paying M&A people in my opinion. Ping me if want to chat.
How can I learn on hypothesis testing and modeling for this? Anything you recommend to read or any course? We have done the market research, analysis and competitive positioning.
What industry is your company in? I work in M&A strategy, feel free to DM me.
We are in Smart building prop tech services. I would dm you.
My professional advice is that startups don’t require, they get acquired. Startups are the ones that need to grow organically. Otherwise it WILL fail. That’s the definition of a start up
We are not startup per se. We have been organically growing for the past 8 years and growing fast in the past 5 years. However, we think to provide for or cover a new service we would have to hire extremely talented and high paying people. We have made some pretty expensive mistakes in hiring in the past and it seems acquiring a firm that already has the talent vetted would be a less overwhelming situation. We do not have retention issue but more so finding the right Engineers.
Dm if you need to talk this through
Hire Gartner . They have a group of analysts on M&A.
Yes !
Can you pay buyside fees?
Honestly I would be faking it if I say I understood buy-side fees and what exactly that meant. I have always been on the internal and customer facing strategy side. And now this is a new uncharted territory that I am supposed to get info on.
First, why are y'all looking at growth via acquisition (inorganic growth) vs. organic growth?
Associate 1 and senior associate 1 - we have been growing organically for the past 8 years and really focused and growing since last 4 years. We are getting a lot of traction and work however it seems due to shortage in supply of the kind of talent we need, it gets overwhelming to keep going thru hire, fire and then rehire m. We have made some mistakes in hiring in the past. So we are considering acquiring a firm with vetted talent. But I don’t think we are just ready to jump the gum rather spread it out in the next 2 years. I really want to start understanding this and building models.
Associate 1 - I think we did a very high level evaluation of the decision and have not really put a foot on what we really would do. Hence, I wanted to know some resources to understand how we can grow and if acquisition is the right path. We are still focused on organic growth and will continue for a few more years. But you gave me a question to look for objectively. And start building a model on it.
Thank you everyone for your comments. Gave me a lot to think and work on. Any resources to understand the basics would be appreciated too.
