It happens all the time where it's in the divorce agreement that one spouse carry the other on their insurance until a certain date or until he/she remarries.
Will the company allow the ex-spouse to remain in your plan though?
I think it depends on the type of coverage you have. Who is your insurance carrier?
It’s currently with Kaiser, but I have an option to use Cigna

If you have a court order requiring it, yes. Otherwise, no.
Correct. I got divorced last year and had to be taken off his insurance immediately. Unless the court requires it, you usually can't keep them on.
