Be supportive. It is not their burden to bear hearing my frustration and some of burn/frustration is lingering from COVID. I am jaded from the events and bull the world put nurses through in COVID....but that is my burden and no one else's. Burdening and scaring those looking towards healthcare may deflect amazing people from doing jobs they would totally thrive in.
I would share my tips but not my grief because I want to be the hand up for them. If this is something they are interested in...buddy I have study tips, IV tips, communication tips, and I know epic like the back of my hand. How can I help you obtain the degree you desire?
I have been a RN for over 39 years. I am originally from Canada and have worked in Canada as a nurse. When I moved to the US I never felt nurses were treated with the respect they deserved. Actually, I would say that our expertises from our riche training are not even understood. The Nurse are perceived as task doers easily replaceable like cheap commodities. When I worked as a consultant in public health, we began to be replaced by health educator to save money by administration without medical background and who had never cared for anyone sick. Can you imagine? The system is all missed up and it does not announce good for the future. More and more corporations are hungry for money and start to even replace tellers with self-serve stations. When there will be no more nurses this will be one of the reason: The Corporation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpjypnxnS4U Corporations have become to powerful and wealthy. Being wealthy they control everything.
My boss always tells me her piece of advice for anyone going into the healthcare field is to go to nursing school. She says that is where the money is and with the shortages in that field, you can almost get school completely paid for. I honestly have been thinking about it myself.
