typically if they gaslight, look for problems where there arent any, single you out over team issues as if they are personal…
I would say take notice of the way that they treat you and how that varies from the way they treat your coworkers. If a boss is short with me or tries to avoid talking to me, that always makes me think they may have ill feelings toward me. At the end of the day, though, it’s not really about being liked; it’s about them respecting you and the work you do.
I've always been able to sense when people don't like me. It's a gut feeling.
Huh. Is it common for people to dislike their direct reports? I literally love my entire team. Don’t get me wrong. Some of them have weaknesses that we work on… But as far as liking them as a person? I like all of them.
Interesting question.
— Rarely responds to emails or messages
— Excludes you from meetings you should be invited to
— Only criticizes your work
— Tells you outright
Going thru this right now!
Sometimes, it’s perception and not reality
Sometimes, it is real
In my position, I say that the first signs were when they changed the way we were assigned work and my work was constantly stolen by the same 3 people consistently and I was questioned as if I did something wrong when I in fact took screen shots and documented every single time my work was worked. Nothing happens to the people that steal your work btw, but every time mine is stolen it’s swept under the rug. When they don’t respond to your emails, questions, requests, etc in a timely manner. When they outright tell you that you’re not important to the department because there are a few QR people that can do your job (and the position is way lower than QR). Those are just a few and yes, they’re happening to me now. The last one happened while I was in training for a brand new position in a different department been working for the company for 3 years and never been in trouble or anything.

I think I have never had a boss dislike me. I have had interviews where knew we would clash and I didn't get those jobs. I have a happy and outgoing personality which clicks with most people. My wife is an introvert and has the opposite experiences. She says she knows by the type of work she gets.
