What are the best educational resources you’ve encountered post-school? 1 year into practicing and always looking for any books /podcasts/online seminars on a a broad array of relevant topics. So far, I’ve found both Bryan Garner’s legal writing book and Rick friedman’s “the elements of trial” invaluable; and enjoyed the negotiation book Getting to Yes.

I find asking my coworkers, they usually have great resources or recommendations! Additionally if you have access to Lexis they have a bunch of practice guides by state/topic and if you’re writing a brief they have an AI tool (brief analysis) you can upload your writing to and it will suggest case law or relevant material that could help you if you’ve missed something

Honestly it’s been the school of hard knocks. Just working with others, bouncing ideas off of them, having them read depo transcripts and asking for feedback, getting feedback on motions, etc.

For sure! I work at a small boutique firm and am the only novice attorney. Soaking up the others’ learned knowledge is priceless. That said, I was surprised to have learned over the last year that the attorneys I work with have just done the same playbook (not necessarily in a bad way) for decades. Some of the stuff I’ve picked up in these books, I’ve brought to the firm and their minds have been blown, lol. Utilizing little known rules, tips for organization, more efficient research… there’s so much to pick up that I’m not exposed to unless I seek it out

My negotiation class also had us reading Beyond Winning, which is another very helpful interest-based negotiation styled book.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

What would you do in this situation?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

Found a random engagement ring.

Hi all, so I found a platinum ring (which I assumed it's an engagement ring as it has dates and initials engraved on top.) And a Divvy tag (I have no idea what it was until I googled it. Apparently it's a bike sharing service in Chicago) in a briefcase I ordered online. I was thinking of returning the item back to the store but that wouldn't help the person who lost the ring. Attached is a picture of them.

What should I do now?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult.
