You mean interviewee? My absolute favorites are:
1. Tell me one thing that people don’t like about working with you - if I were to ask a former/boss/coworker/team member?
2. Tell me about a time you screwed up - something you wouldn’t want a future employer to know about?
Once they answer (because that second generally makes them uncomfortable as hell), I’ll qualify why I’m asking: I expect my team to be pretty autonomous (I drive the team strategy - the what and the why - they deal with the how) so I need them to be confident in their right to be in the room but I need them to able to recognize when to listen and when to speak and own the mistakes they make (because confidence without self-awareness is arrogance).
I’ve only ever had one person actually fail out at those questions (gave three examples of mistakes that “weren’t actually my fault”), but generally it serves to help me get an intangible sense of who’ll do well on the team. My explanation also serves to build authenticity and trust.
The good ones ask #2 back to me. And they get an honest answer and that helps build the trust even further.
This is my favorite question that I've been asked: what is something you would change about the company right now?
