PSO is a lot more hands on than customer Engineer.
Customer engineers are starting to work long hours because they support a huge number of clients. The work that CEs do is basically 1) proof of concept environments, 2) answering hard tech questions and 3) educating the customer. The questions are hard....so it's not a cake walk. In the past pso was able to support the team with more complex questions and situations (ie how would you build my entire environemtnd and why), but those days are coming to an end (pso is too busy).
Pso is basically google cloud's architect and design team. They help clients get into the cloud and support their business needs. They work less hours than CEs by a lot (32-42 for pso), get more training and generally live a fun life.
Pay wise. CE's get sales comp. Pso does not. Pso gets more equity. CEs pay is variable....pso is more consistent. Pso is stress free....ce is stress ful.
Big change is that CE's need to become more technical asap. No hiding behind the sales literature or playing phone tag with prod mgrs around questions

What’s PSO?
Professional services
You got interview call? I think CE pays you more
Is it support - production support
Pso is more like architecture, detailed design and usually sample teraform code. We will also do over the shoulder tech help at times
Thank you so much for the information. Does PSO works on capacity planning?
Our different tech groups do that as a part of their normal work. We are focused on properly sizing things tech services....not really predicting business need
