Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and all of my work experience till now has been in R&D for start ups and small businesses . So not only is this a new experience for me going into such a large company but also a industry (semiconductors). Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

Following (not sure if I want to get an MBA in the future ) - ideally I don’t want to
I would look to see if people in the roles you’re interested in have MBAs, and what team composition looks like. As an example - my team (R&D Strategy) right now is 50/50 MBAs and PhDs. It’s not a hard requirement for the team, but it would be harder to get the job without one of them.
Also happy to chat more about MBA here or in DMs. It’s a degree where utility is extremely situational - it was immensely beneficial for me, but useless for some of my classmates.
Pros: 2 years off of work, possibly large salary bump, let’s you switch careers, builds strong network, school brand on resume
Cons: opportunity cost of full time education vs working, expensive, outcomes dependent on school quality, career outcomes business focused
You’ll unlock a network for life to be able to get those roles especially if you go to a reputable MBA program (M7/T15)
