Hi Londoners ,
Moving in from outside UK.
Looking out for some areas in west / NW London where one can live with an infant on max 1400£ rental while requiring one partner to travel to Central occasionally for work and the other person 3 days a week to LHR.
Some Qns:
1) Will 1 Bedroom be too cramped for the infant to grow up? Should I raise budget?
2) I prefer being in family /childcare friendly areas. Had Harrow, Acton in mind . Are they good for my budget or any other suggestions?

Not reviewing the actual benefits...just because it is named the same, costs the same, doesn't mean coverage is unchanged. Even if the costs increases there could still be changes in the benefits you should be aware of.
Our coverage changed a lot. My chosen coverage used to be a straight fee for ER now it is $300 plus 10%. When I first started that same policy was $150 for ER visit and your first ER visit was no copay.
Yes people use the ER for non emergent things....and that probably drove up the employee costs for services. That isn't really new....I used to work a 12 bed we and we even had people check in for wellness baby checks 😳. My more recent ER job was a 54 bed trauma unit...tons of needless visits to ER.

Dependent Care FSA is for DAYCARE services, not Dependent Healthcare…good lord, this one grinds my gears.
Very good tips,thanks M1
Not reviewing your options thoroughly. It's easy to just go with the same benefits choices year after year without really thinking about whether they still meet your needs. But life changes, and so do your benefit needs. Take the time to review all your options carefully, and don't be afraid to ask questions if something isn't clear.
Agree, not reviewing documentation can cost a lot of money…I misread the deadline for dependent care benefit and it cost me $1000
Every year at re-enrollment, we need to click a box that indicates we are not a smoker. If you do not click that box, it's substantially more in cost. And every year a handful of my co-workers do not click the box despite there being step-by-step instructions during enrollment.
