What are your thoughts on American Airlines's 500 mile upgrades?

My opinion: they should follow what delta does and do complimentary status upgrades if there is room. I see no point to keep someone in coach if they have status and there is room available in the next class.

American Airlines and its upgrade program suck!

500 mile upgrades are awesome. After EPs are upgraded, it gives the available seats to those who value it the most and therefore would use 500 mile upgrades for it. If you UA or DL you can never get upgraded with a mid tier status on a big plane to any metropolitan city. With AA there is actually a chance due to the 500 mile policy. That being said, you're still behind EPs so my advice is to buckle up and do 2-3 big mileage runs to hit that 100k mile. Otherwise all mid tier statuses don't get you shit anymore.

I fly AA and did an Indy to Chicago over the holiday. I have platinum so upgraded to first and was the only one in first class. They should've just upgraded the plebs too. I think 500 mile upgrades are so dumb. Wish they just followed suit with united or delta for upgrades.

I don't know what I saw last: an empty seat in first or my foreskin

Is it cuz you can't see past your stomach from all the delicious foods and libations whilst traveling? 😄

I'll give you a hint: I run destination half marathons.

What happens if you request a 500 mile upgrade and you aren't confirmed? Do you lose the upgrades?

Currently big mileage runs for AA are LAX-ATL-LAX for around $800 roundtrip netting 10k miles (and you can expense your average weekly travel cost if you're traveling to a client). Others include LAX-MIA-LAX in first is around $900 for around 10k and they usually fly flat beds on the route once or twice a day. ORD-DFW-SEA is another good one. Flights to Quito, Lima, and Colombia are super cheap too.

No you get the upgrades back if you don't get upgraded.

Maybe I'll just take a trip to China for 14k since tickets are so damn cheap during off peak lol. Found a ticket for 450 the other day.

Best budgeting apps? I have tried every dollar before but it got confusing bc I pay most things on a credit card that I pay off each month, so when I paid the card, the app didn’t know how to categorize the payment coming out of my checking account in my budget (plus it was a lump sum of things). I think I need one that will also link to my credit cards.
