They’ve banned salaries?!?! These holding companies have gone too far.
Senior strat 1: when interviewing for a new job, the ban would make it illegal for companies to ask you what your current salary is
I’ve always refused to answer the question. I would say “the amount I would need to consider a move is x”. I did have some recruiters say they couldn’t work with me if I didn’t answer, but it was usually some entry level recruiter making cold calls anyway.
Agree w LB 1, I wish Chicago had the ban. It would help women and POC who may have started at a smaller salary get their market wage.
I also think companies should publish their salary bands.
I’ve always lied anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Okay just confirmed, in NYC the ban is now legal. So no one tell HR how much they make. They also can NOT call employers to check.
Do you mean Salary Question ban?
I never answer with a number. "Commensurate to experience and responsibilities." And I don't budge; it's the only way to get a fair wage. I only talk numbers when I have an offer on the table.
As an employee I’m a fan. I recently had two interviews (in Chicago), and was asked what I was thinking salary wise vs how much money I make. However, I could see how candidates on the job market might abuse the situation. I guess now more than ever companies might have to pay your true market value.
Wait what is this. Can someone explain...
Wish chicago had it. V important.
^ (Right?)
Looks like some states are banning potential employers from asking your current salary, or asking your previous employer for it.
