Problematic white people.
Racism via lack of promotion, lowballed offers and growth opportunities.
This! Getting in is easy, but growing beyond your point of entry has been a very very common theme.

No unity within marginalized communities. Even within the Black community, there's a lot of "follow our style or we won't fuck with you"
White women stick together, no matter what. And look how many of them have been put in position.
I'll go first - I think it's lack of exposure, and lack of confidence. With more exposure to different jobs in advertising while in school, and more representation hopefully more black professionals will be join and be successful in the industry.
Not assimilating. For the record, I don’t believe that Black people should assimilate into white culture, but not doing so hinders success. We all must do the calculus to what extent we will/won’t and the impact on our careers.
Not being the kind of guy some dude can see himself having a beer with.
I’ve noticed POC and working harder and longer hours in my 10+ years in agencies, and being laid off first with another POC quick to replace to meet diversity survey quotas. I think a certain generation of racist, more biased people need to retire out and it things will improve in 20 years (if global warming doesn’t kill us first)
Phony diversity initiatives that gaslight and pretend there are no senior and executive talent in the industry already. I keep hearing where’s all the black people? These so called color programs only focus on entry level candidates for bottom tier roles. When it comes to leadership and decision making, they pretend there is no black talent to hire. There’s plenty of us. They just refuse to see us or let us hold the narrative pen. They will hire black actors and models for their campaigns and appropriate our culture but they won’t hire black creatives to write or come up with those campaigns. They won’t staff senior and executive black talent to lead those projects.

This plus the Black creative leadership they do hire come from other industries and aren't here to make work. It's like they're setting us up for failure. I can think of 2/3 Black creatives actually putting in work + with the relevant background and experience needed to lead. Rest of them just here for a bag and in the long run that sucks for us.
