I recently went from large to small, worse pay to 40% raise, getting incredible great multidisciplinary experience to doing horrible single repetitive task.
I moved with the info I had at the time. I regret it now. Everyone situation is different.
Work for large companies. It's highly probable that you can transition to a smaller company whenever you like later. Vice versa isn't guaranteed though.
It depends what you want in your career. If you want to get into leadership, a smaller company will most likely get you there quicker. Otherwise, I would likely continue going for experience and becoming great and what I do and then make a change to kick start a leadership opportunity.
Both can be great options, and give you both wishes! Or either could suck.
In the long run, getting lots of valuable experience early on will serve you better. Though Challenge yourself to learn independent of your company.
Lately, the "typical toxic corporate culture" includes thousands of layoffs, so I'm leaning more towards a smaller company. Better yet, entrepreneurship!
I think it depends on your current needs and where you are in your career. Generally speaking, if you are just starting out working for smaller companies on shorter stints should give you a diverse set of skills that will make you more attractive to the larger companies.
This also has the advantage of ensuring that your salary moves at a more rapid pace due to the job changes. Then you can find something in a large company that will hold your interest and challenge you while affording you more security.
Yes, the current economic situation is not as secure as it normally is but it will return to a more secure position after this correction.
