Interested in this as well, and curious about typical exit opps. Can people in CRE Val exit to real estate PE or development?
It’s possible yes but most people in PE or development do not come from appraisal
Why would you want to move from M&A, something that can give you some of the most
prestigious exit ops out there to real estate valuation lol. I work in appraisal in big 4 and most people exit to other valuation ships and few to PE real estate. Comp is 100k in nyc for senior associate typically. Work is boring let me tell you. Valuing a property is not as fun as valuing a whole company IMO
Real estate appraisal is no where near as technical as bval. It’s easy work and hence very boring. There are better ways to break into real estate PE or acquisitions
The exit ops would be to one of the large CRE service firms (JLL, CBRE, Cushman, etc.) or a more localized middle market appraisal specific firm. I would advise against leaving a big 4 accounting firm to jump into CRE appraisals. Find something you like to do better within one of the big 4 and stay there as long as possible.
Yeah a little bit of all of those. CRE jobs that aren’t big revenue producers don’t pay particularly well.
Where do they come from? I'm in CRE appraisal and want to get out
I hear that...
