It's pretty much the same as campus hire recruiting, eg first round interview with case and second round interviews w multiple partners, some case some not. Perhaps less emphasis on case interview for experienced hire than campus recruits.
FYI, the levels are SC, Associate and then Engagement Manager. OW doesn't really do hiring at the MBA (Associate level) and typically brings people at a slightly lower level with the intent of bringing people up to speed at the next review cycle (annually). If you have killed it at another consulting firm you might be able to get in at a low Associate but a high SC is probably more likely depending on your years of experience and current title. I've seen a number of people with MBAs coming in at high SC though some had less consulting experience.
Saw your response, if you have the manager title I would expect mid associate. Otherwise I think SC is most accurate per other poster.
Eh, similar advantage to progression in the firm though note there isn't quite the same split as there used to be. If you specialize in FS (or elsewhere) there is a better chance there could be an argument for you to be at a slightly higher level. That being said, I would make the decision based on your interest and what you want to do longer term. With your comment on one year consulting experience, I would wait until you get the promotion before the jump or you will move back too far without the manager title.
Any suggestions for permeating the iron curtain that is HR.
Also what does sr associate mean at your current firm? Unless it's equivalent to engagement manager, I'd doubt you'd come in as a manager. More likely to be either sr consultant or associate (our associate level is between sr consultant and manager).
Ok. I am a Senior Associate going for Manager in 2017. So that would make me an Associate At Oliver Wyman.
What do you mean by iron curtain? They review all resumes that come to them on a weekly basis.
😂😂😂😂😂you must be HR. Hi there!
Thanks ow2. I think that's appropriate given I have 6 years industry and one year consulting exp. Are there any advantages to coming in as an FS consultant versus core?
What is the Associate role? If it's the post MBA I am already there. I came from industry but have performed very well against my peers.
For me, I joined directly into a practice group (as opposed to the consultant pool) so I interview with a bunch of people in that practice group. I had 1 phone behavioral, 1 phone case with a little behavioral, 1 phone case, then in office: 1 1:1 case, 1 2:1 case and 1 behavioral, then another partner took me for lunch for a casual behavioral style interview. All in person meetings were with partners and all over the phone interviews were with principles and engagement managers. Overall it was relatively quick and it was great to get into the firm and already know 8 people in my relatively small practice group.
