How frequently should one expect or advocate for a raise at a small firm? I moved to a new firm (about ten lawyers) about two and a half years ago. After my first year I got a 20% raise following a brief and exclusively positive performance review. Its been about 17 months since then and silence. I have the general sense that the firm struggled a little financially during COVID and I don't want to seem ungrateful or greedy, but apparently the firm is doing well enough to hire more associates.
Considering a lateral to Polsinelli in KC due to their pay raise. Anyone have advice/input on Polsinelli culture and hours?? Or any input on other big law offices in the region? Currently a third year transactional attorney at a mid size firm.

How do you cope when you’re overwhelmed? I’ve been working until 11pm the past two weeks minus 1 day (bc it was my birthday) and I see no end in sight. We are short a few people (quit, parental leave, etc) and only have a few associates left in my group so I am getting everything from 6 partners when I am truly only responsible for 2. I know taking time for working out/etc is helpful but I don’t have the time because I need at least 7-8 hours of sleep or I can’t function. Sigh.
Currently in a rotational program at EY (first year out of undergrad). Got placed on a long term risk project and wondering if it’s worth it staying long term. Currently interviewing for the strategy team at a legacy payments company (think visa or Mastercard) and wondering if it’ll stifle growth doing internal consulting. I consider myself extremely talented in the tech field and have contributed to many well used libraries and frameworks but I can’t even get an interview anywhere I apply. While everyone’s situation is unique, it appears to me that there is a general (and substantive) difference between the mindset of senior execs/partners (Gen Xers) and the Gen Z/Millennial troops as to the need to head back to the office. There is a world of difference between “the office” as code for “client lunches, rounds of golf” vs “needless commuting time that will eat into a working day that is already unsustainable”. Do you feel your organization is in touch with where you are?
How bad does it look to prospective employers to change jobs every 3 years? I've done this since college (12 years ago) and have tripled my salary as a result. Granted, I've switched between the same two companies each time, getting a big pay bump in the process. Now, the other company is looking at bringing me back again (3rd time). The pay bump won't be as big, but much better WLB, less travel, and I'll be able to do what I love. Opinions on this?

How would you communicate the involuntary termination of a team member at a startup? Typically, I handle these communications by having the manager have an informative session immediately after the termination to the employee's direct team and the news rapidly spread. However, as this is such a small team it may cause confusion and concerns for the team that stays. I feel like there isn't an "ideal" way to communicate involuntary terminations, but happy to hear your advice
