Fidelity Investments I joined FIL on 08th August 2022 and hence was eligible for appraisal but even after a good feedback, I was told that there is no increment in salary as well as bonus because of "Too Soon To Decide" rating. And this is being followed not just in our team but in whole FIL. This is the first time I am hearing such kind of thing and didn't found any thing like this on "HR Hub". So, if anyone of you know about this or have received similar gyan from Manager, please share your experience. Fidelity In

Keep in mind that housing in the city is super expensive and the slightly higher salary doesn't close the entire gap. If you want to live in Manhattan by yourself plan on spending at least $2K minimum for a place in a decent area.
Yeah expect like 5-10 percent raise. 5 if you are decent 10 if you are top performer.
Starting salary is about $60K. Factor in a 8% raise (averaging here between poor and great performers), and you're at about $64k. If you're a great performer then maybe 12% raise so you're at about $67K.
thanks. i am considering to move to NYC. Hopefully it would be a good idea
Live in jersey or connecticut, you'll also not pay nyc income tax by not living in the city
If you have roommates, you can get it closer to 1k per month. I'm moving to the UES with my girlfriend and our 1br is 1800, my share being 1150 or so. That said, the quality of life is very different to what 1800 buys you anywhere else in the country.
^Single people can't share a 1Br.
@RSM1, I believe you're taxed where you actually perform the work. If you are working in NYC, I believe that the city and state tax apply. Not a tax guy though so not positive on city tax.
If you work in nyc and reside outside of the city, you dont pay nyc income tax. If you work in the city and reside in the city, you'll pay nyc income tax. Its a tax on residents. Thats why a lot of people decide for a longer commute and reside outside the city to escape the tax. If you work for the city, no matter where you live you will have to pay nyc income tax. Can save upwards of 3.5% of your income by moving outside of the city
You will pay tax to new york state on your nyc job earnings only and claim a credit on whatever state you reside in so you are not double taxed
thanks all for the advices. Which area outside of NYC you recommend in terms of housing and commute ?
Rent is half in north jersey, plus save on taxes. Its the best bet
^Makes sense. Although I guess it all depends on why you're moving here. I'm guessing for someone whose relatively young (only a few years into their career), they will want to live in the city (since moving here most likely for the city atmosphere). Living in Jersey/Connecticut can be great, he enjoying the city lifestyle is not one of the perks :)
Any of the areas in north jersey, the neighborhoods in nyc north of manhattan, i would say connecticut but thats the most expensive. Ik some people live in pennsylvania and commute to the city but thats too far for me
North Jersey is not the best bet. You need to weigh what you're looking for. Living in north jersey will make you're commute into the city everyday miserable. Minimum of 2.5 hours of commuting per day.
Neighborhoods in nys* north of manhattan
@OP what type of lifestyle are you looking for? Do you have a family and can live outside the city or do you want to experience city life? Do you want to commute 2+ hours a day for cheaper rent? Do you want a suburban lifestyle or an Urban one. Considering roommates? What's you're budget?
One hour commute one way would be acceptable to me. I am considering roommates. And I prefer a neighborhood which is quite and clean.
The one hour commute is just to get into the city. Unfortunately, that's just the train into GC. Depending on where in the city you're clients are you could have an additional 30 minute commute once you get to GC.
If looking in the city check out UES. Lower East Side, East Village, Queens, Bushwick. Outside check out Stamford, Jersey City, Hoboken.
