What is the industry standard for ID billable rates? We’re currently set at $190 partner/$175 associate but thinking of increasing rates. Is it realistic to ask for more?

What kind of work and where? My average ID rate is $230 partner, professional liability in NYC. Pretty rough way to make a living.

Sounds about right for ID, I’d ask for more cases rather than a rate increase and then try for a bump at the new year. Good luck!

Midwest, one of our carriers is as low as $120 for associates.

I’ve heard anywhere from $95-350. Does anyone know the standard billing rate for med mal defense?

Depends on if your LCOL or HCOL and the type of firm. Maybe 100 to 500 per hour (larger firms with ID practices) and bigger value cases (think 10+ M demand).

I’m about to give my notice at a firm I’ve been at for the majority of my legal career. They’ve recently offered me non-equity partnership (which I’ve accepted), w equity partnership on the horizon. However, I’ve been annoyed with their way of running the business and getting between me and my earnings far too long; and I received a lucrative offer to go in-house. I’m not looking forward to their reaction and feel bad about them having to take over my docket when everyone’s very busy. Any tips?

Hi all,

I am an IT professional having almost 5 years of experience and want to move to Canada for PR. My CRS score is not upto the cut off. I need someone who can help in earning connections points for Manitoba PNP program.

As it allows having an acquaintance or a friend to earn those 20 points, it can help my PR application.

Anyone who is PR and resident of Manitoba can dm me to discuss around it. I am ready to pay for this assistance as well.

For those who like litigation, but not personal injury and premises liability claims, why areas are you feeling the most traction in while looking for lateral moves to other firms?

I worked FT as a paralegal and went to law school in the evening. I recently interviewed at a small ID firm in employment law with about 9 attorneys. They asked for a writing sample. I dont have anything recent but provided what I had from last yr in a legal writing class, it was not enough for them. I became licensed this May so I dont have an array of motions to pick from. Then they asked for my undergrad transcript, at this point, I am now annoyed They are not Biglaw. Are they going overboard

It’s Friday night at midnight and I just got out of work. I am new to FPP defense. So far it’s soul crushing. I feel like a robot just doing the same pattern pleadings and discovery over and over. If I try to be creative or ask questions I get the response that I should not recreate the wheel… basically just cut and paste. My brain feels like it’s going to rot doing this work. Does it get better or do I need to plan my exit to a different field ASAP?

Newly barred attorney here! Considering a position at a small firm that represents corporations in claims against insurance companies. I love litigation but have never considered insurance litigation. Any advice?

I am a fourth year attorney and am on track to be partner of a small but well established ID firm in 2-3 years. Our bread and butter is ID but I have the freedom to take on any matters I like.

I do not want to be doing ID forever but I really don’t know what comes next. What other similar but more advanced (and better paying) fields of defense litigation are out there? Is the next type of civil defense litigation just going out and being hired by private companies?

One partner loves my work! The other partner who I work primarily with literally changes every single word that I write! Wtf
