I got a couple small-ish raises and then got an 18% raise when I was promoted from junior to mid-level. They (successfully) gaslit me into believing this was fabulous and I should be thankful, but in reality I was now making the lowest of the low in terms of mid-level. I got a couple more raises, up to 10%, but got tired of begging for them. Finally got an offer which they couldn’t match, went from $63k to $80k. Hated that place, kept interviewing, got an offer for my current gig and jumped to $95k. So, $63k to $95k in ~8 weeks. What I learned from this is that it rarely pays off to stick around waiting for a company to finally value you. You don’t and they won’t. A massive percentage bump in salary from within the same company seems to be depressingly rare, except when it’s a counter-offer, which happens often. For me, it’s honestly easier and so much less emotionally exhausting to just hop around every couple years.
I’d say the percentage increases stay similar for each bump, but since you’re making more and more each time obviously the amounts get bigger faster as you progress. At least that’s been my experience. Percent increases ranged from 15-25%. Largest bump for my base was my last at 20% / $30K. Also came with a more lucrative bonus structure. Hope that helps!
I got 25k when I got promoted from junior - mid-level
35%
Same. (Still slightly underpaid)
I went from a junior writer making 60k and took a mid level job making 83k. Hope to jump to over 100k when I make my next jump.

45% from ACD to CD, but i was on the low end.
Agency or in-house?
45%
35k bump getting promoted from senior AD to art sup, only because I had another offer and used it as leverage
Not quite, it’s more of a pharma specific role that’s between senior AD and ACD!
~15% from mid to senior. I was on the high end as a mid, though.
13-18% is typical for a promotion increase at most levels. Any higher and you were underpaid or are super valued or both.
I went from $90k (was underpaid) to $155k (sold in a lot of new business on account).
29%. Company did a salary readjustment that went into effect with your next promotion.
It doesn’t work that way. Average increases across any industry is 6% low end 15% high end, if there’s a unique circumstance which could be an array of reasons such as performance aligned with opportunity due to profit gain, right sizing salaries by title experience gender etc, then you could see a one time unique up to something like a 30% increase, but that is rare. If you want to make gains above 15% it is general rule that unless your company is highly profitable AND is super supportive of career growth, you will do. Enter moving companies but that assumes you have the experience, personal brand, and success trail to deem this kind of career growth. There’s always back door things happening but I would recommend steering clear of companies that operate without integrity and fair equity processes for all.
18% raise ~not~ on a promotion.
40% raise to jump ship into a promotion at another firm after I was denied a 20% raise.
