That sounds fairly familiar. I can recall being assigned short pieces, 400-500 words, and then being questioned why I hadn't included one thing or another. And it comes from readers too, if you omit something they'll come up with the idea that there's some conspiratorial reason beyond "it wouldn't fit."
“Short but detailed” sums up so much of media feedback. I once got “more dramatic but less emotional” as guidance. It is like they want contradictions on purpose.
