To burn the bridge: be as critical and direct as possible about why you’re leaving and how you’re much happier etc
To keep the bridge: sandwich method. Start off Humble, then critics about the role and areas of improvement (if any), and end with gratitude and staying connected post exit of organization
I gave honest feedback in the exit interview. They want me to come back, and I am not a jerk. I gave positive feedback and also negative feedback and it was honest. The HR person and Practice Lead (I talked to them separately) were actually very appreciative and told me, “we usually don’t get anything useful out of these exit interviews. This actually is helpful”.
Depends if you want to burn the bridge or not
Tell them you had a great time on the bridge. Big beautiful bridge
If you want to keep the bridge intact - you might have to bite your tongue a bit in terms of negative/constructive feedback
Make your reasons for leaving about you, not the company.
Show gratitude and appreciation for the opportunities you had while you were working there.
Keep your answers concise and clear.
Keep it real, say you’re leaving for what you wish could be fixed but be realistic. Don’t get personal or throw insults.
Probably not a bad idea to say you’re leaving to pick up experience or exposure or to explore something outside of them. Then the harshest feedback would be ‘not THAT bad’. If your feedback is that bad, then frame it in a way where it could be ‘changed’ at some point in the future where you might be applying to return

I think it’s crazy how small the finance world is , always be cordial. I sometimes forget that there are only around 600 asset managers out there when I do things lol
I could have buried my manager but code not too - no reason and he had been already cut down to size
Honestly, you are leaving for a reason. I would be brutally honest. You can be respectful and still be honest.
