I havent done it but reach out to associates who left on LinkedIn
Bold
Why don’t you ask for a “second look” or a lunch with a few associates? We do this all the time. You are interviewing the firm at that point and everyone wants to make sure you are actually good fit so you don’t end up bailing in 6-9 months.
I also think it’s kinda easy to tell when an associate is bs’ing you. They give the answer everyone gives “well the people here are great. If you’re working late one night at least you’re surrounded by your friends while doing it”
The best I’ve been able to come up with is trying to find former associates who have recently left the particular office, practice group, or partner. The problem there is that you have to take what they say with a grain of salt because they’re often biased. But at least they’re usually very eager to vent about their former employers—it seems like a form of catharsis.
Also they may have left for other reasons and had a great experience!
I’d also be a bit worried about those associates telling the firm that you reached out, which might not be received well
If the firm hires people from your law school, reach out to career services and get in contact with alums that work and worked there. Then, its not a random linkedin message but through your law school.
