Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

I only bring in a little over $2,600 a month. After paying all my expenses, I get to put away $500 a month in savings but don’t have much wiggle room for anything else, including going out money.

I’m very privileged to have a significant inheritance and zero debt of any kind. I really wonder how my peers who have student loans, car payments, and even children manage to pay their bills and live so comfortably. Please share if this is you!

Pretty sure the saga of the slave driven company has come to an end I’m the only HR person at this company. Friday I had full admin rights, and went to check email Saturday; account locked. Payroll/HRIS locked out. PEO service says no pending termination is on my file. Went to the office today to get my things just in case. Located in CA. Was about to report numerous violations too. All because I couldn’t solve 8 months of payroll issues in a day. 🫠 Good riddance, I’m getting a lawyer.

Is Federal/Public Sector consulting fulfilling work? I'm at a tier 2 consulting firm right now focused on retail clients, and I just feel like there is zero point to this work. Its all about increasing sales of a product that people could easily live without. As an Associate, I just move boxes around on PPT slides all day. I will be joining IBM next week in Bangalore ( physical onboarding ) and my hometown is in West bengal , My father is having health problems , mother won't be able to handle everything and no such person we can rely on . Also I am getting married in January . Hence If i stay in Bangalore there will be no one to take responsibility for my marriage prep also .
