I racked up about $20k in credit card debt due to a confluence of things happening at once (move, school expenses , etc ). I have a fair amount of paper assets but not a much free cash. Assets are down a decent amount with the current market cycle and I’d prefer not to sell them to cover the debt , although they easily could. Any suggestions how to handle the credit card debt without racking up tons of ongoing card interest?

Love how BS credit score is. Got my score up to 800 last month only to go on vacation so my credit utilization went up to 8% due to the increased spending and my score dropped 35 points because I didn’t immediately pay the balance after charging the purchases. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never missed a payment, how is 8% credit utilization determined to be that big of a risk that my score got immediately wrecked, I don’t understand

I am an associate at a UMM and my employment contract has a 4 month non compete (yes, even for associates) but I am thinking of lateraling. What are the implications of breaking a non compete? I didn’t say anything when I signed because I was desperate for a PE offer but it seems so unfair as I am just a lowly associate. I am not so much worried about getting sued, but about my current employer tanking my reputation if I leave and break the non compete.

(1) I’m at a midsize firm with great team members/mentor in this practice area, what is the Milwaukee office’s culture like as far as mentorship and collegiality?

(2) Is 1900 hours a reasonable estimate of how many hours I would actually work as an associate/what are normal hours for an associate?

I want to switch markets transfer to my current firm’s office in that city. But lateral market is hot and bonuses are generous. Anybody heard of your current firm matching competing lateral bonuses so that they can keep you as an internal lateral? Or will firms match lateral bonus offers even if you aren’t moving cities in an attempt to keep you at the firm?

I have an offer from Mayer Brown as a senior associate and they have told me that a guaranteed full EOY bonus is not standard or a market ask. My offer is in a non-NY office and the posting for this position has been up for six months.

Any recent laterals out there who moved in the last few months who received a guaranteed full EOY bonus and/or signing bonus for a corporate senior associate role?

Any thoughts on how quick turnaround should be after first round interview? When’s a decent time to follow up?
