Hi fishers! I have offer and signed contract with Deloitte UK and my start day is in the beginning of April. I need skilled worker visa, and we haven’t applied yet for that. Screening and onboarding is in progress. Immigration team doesn’t reply since reached me out 1st time. How much time does it usually needed to go through the whole process? How many days take for visa to be approved since application?Deloitte

It all depends on the client, however I would say £1,000 is good, £1,250 is great, and anything about £1,250 is excellent. The other caveat is whether the role is within or outside IR35, some clients use the fact that their proposed role is outside IR35 as a way of negotiating down your rate.

Spent more years in industry than consulting. I worked with a lot of contractors but they were either ex industry people or career contractors with big, recognisable programmes under their belt. Can’t say I ever saw demand for a strategy contractor. At current employer (FTSE 100 household name) we don’t pay more than £1K per day for contractors and those at the top end are retired industry execs. Most contractors I know are doing 2 gigs at once since IR35.

Don’t think you understand how the role of a contractor works. They’re usually on a contracted number of hours per year, whatever you do outside of those hours is on you. I only know of a handful of people who do 2 full time contracts but usually folks have time to do an additional contract half time, or take on freelance work or do work for their local university. Outside of FAANG, I haven’t seen anyone ask contractors to sign a noncompete but that would be interesting if that’s something companies are doing now. I don’t know too many people who have changed gigs since Covid so maybe this is new.
Good luck finding said role
The key is your network, people willing to get you onboard because you are a known entity will give you the greatest chance. Ex MBB can expect between £1000-1500 day rates especially if you are tapping into network.

I'd probably say £1200+, average around £1500 - if you have particular expertise in an area that few others have, that could increase quite dramatically.
I work for an executive search firm that does this kind of work - happy to talk if you'd be interested.
Hi. I’m in a similar position but at Big 4 Manager equivalent. Would you be willing to have a chat about reasonable day rate?
